The Speckled Wood Butterfly (Pararge aegeria) is found in and on the borders of woodland and can be seen on Bradgers Hill.

They feed on different types  of grasses. Their wingspans are approximately 5 cm with males being slightly smaller than females. The wings range in colour from brown to orange and the spots being yellow, white, cream or tawny orange. The females markings are brighter and more distinct.

The females typically only mate once during their lifetimes whereas the males will mate multiple times.
