Common Spotted Orchid

The Common Spotted Orchid (Dactylorhiza fuchsii) flowers from June to August.. A common and widespread plant, it can grow anywhere from 15 cm to 60 cm in height. They can vary from light purple with darker purple dots, dashes or loops to white in colour. The flower spike starts off conical  in then shape and then becomes progressively cylindircal.The leaves are green  with purplish oval spots. They form  a rosette at ground level  and then the flower spike appears.


The plant can survive in a variety of different habitats.
