Butterfly Survey 2016

2016 saw our group run its first ever butterfly survey. Organised by our “Survey Officer” David Coupe and forming part of the United Kingdom Butterfly Monitoring Scheme (UKBMS), our survey ran from the 01st April 2016 for 26 weeks. To guide us in our efforts, we were extremely pleased and grateful to have had the valuable input of Greg Herbert of the UKBMS.

Greg attended our April 13th 2016 committee meeting to give a short talk about butterfly surveys and it was great to see members of the local community attend to hear what Greg had to say.

The results of the survey helped provide a picture of the health of the UK’s butterfly populations and of course of our own Bradgers Hill. The results formed part of our ongoing work to try and secure Bradgers Hill designation as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

The survey involved walking a 1.7 kilometre transect (set route) anytime between  the hours of 10:00 and 15:00 on as many days as possible.

We would like to that all the individuals who volunteered to walk the route. We couldn’t have completed this survey without your help!!!!

We’ll be conducting the survey again next year in our “2017 Butterfly Survey.”
